Biography

"Some of my paintings are simply fun, campy, old movie spin offs. Others are not much different than songs in an album full of romantic lyrics: some sad, some wishful, others playful and seductive.

Some of my works are set as distant observations . . . noticing someone, and waiting for that moment when they slip from control, to when they reveal a glimpse of their vulnerability.

The ability to express one’s true vulnerability tends to separate those that are the great actors in life from those of interest and quality to me. This vulnerability, this insight...this is the fuel for my art: people’s passions, those moments in life, unexpected, secretive or direct. It's not the ‘art’ that fits the design of the moment, but rather the ‘moment’ that defines the art. These moments are timeless and universal.

Growing up with one TV channel in black and white, I would anxiously hurry home from school to see old 40's and 50's movies. My imagination colored myself into every romance scene. I became these gorgeous women with their high drama. That was intoxicating and addictive to my spirit and a means by which for me to escape into another world.

Painting for me as the artist is the process of discovery....with brush strokes, color, immediacy, and that juiciness that allows me to feel an energy and follow it to the end; that is the joy of it for me. Once completed, I then must let go....at that intersection in time, the art is for another's experience, to find something within themselves, a memory, a moment or an experience.”
